Wanting restoration is understandable
When a marriage, friendship or hoped-for relationship is broken, it is natural to pray for restoration. But restoration is not always identical to returning to the previous relationship in exactly the same form.
Prophecy should not remove another person’s agency
A prophetic word cannot make another person commit, reconcile or change. Be careful about building your future around a prediction that requires someone else to make choices they are not presently making.
Look at fruit as well as promises
Pay attention to honesty, responsibility, repentance, consistency, safety and willingness to change. A hopeful spiritual message should not require you to ignore persistent harmful behaviour.
Boundaries are not a failure of faith
Forgiveness and reconciliation are related but not identical. Forgiveness does not require returning to an unsafe situation. Where there is abuse, coercion, threats or danger, prioritise safety and seek appropriate professional and local support.
Ask what faithfulness looks like now
Sometimes the question is not, Will this relationship eventually be restored, but, What is the wise and loving step I can take now? God can lead you even when you do not yet know the final outcome.
